THORNTON, Colo. — Two fast-moving thunderstorms roared through the Thornton area Wednesday night. The first one passed through around 6 p.m. followed by a second cell at 7:30.
Both storms brought pea-sized pieces of hail and heavy blasts of rain. Blasts of lightning and loud claps of thunder stretched across the sky.
“We’ve actually been riding with our backs to it, but when you guys pulled us over thought ‘might as well get home soon,’” said Keith Smallwood, who was cycling with his friend Ryan Martin.
Smallwood and Martin figured it was in their best interest to head home early. After all, a few minutes after we interviewed them hail moved in.
“It’s Colorado so you can expect pretty much anything,” Martin said.
By the late evening hours, the storms moved on and continued north.
