DENVER — A 22-year-old record was broken Sunday when the temperature peaked at 97 degrees at Denver International Airport, the National Weather Service said.

The previous high for the date was 95 degrees, set in 1995.

It was already 90 degrees in Boulder at 10 a.m., the National Weather Service reported. At 4 p.m., it was more than 100 degrees in Fort Morgan.

The NWS predicted record highs were possible Sunday along the Front Range, and urged people to limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, wear light clothing and sunscreen, and only work outdoors early or very late in the afternoon.
