DENVER – Expect cooler temperatures and rain to continue throughout the weekend in metro Denver with snow at higher elevations.

Temperatures will struggle to break 60 degrees until Sunday.

Mother’s Day in Denver usually means mild weather with high temperatures in the upper 60s to near 70 with only a slight chance of afternoon rain. Overnight low temperatures are typically mild enough to let us plant our spring gardens without worrying about killing frosts.

But this weekend, we may be better off letting nature deliver the chief ingredient for beautiful spring plants; water.

It’s been a very dry season with only an inch and a half of rain since March 1. That puts spring rainfall at almost 2 inches below average for this spring season.

This weekend’s rains for the northern Front Range and parts of the Eastern Plains will help; we’re expecting another 3 to 4-tenths of an inch.  And hopefully that badly needed rainfall will make our spring gardens more colorful in the weeks ahead.

High temperatures this weekend will be in the 50s to lower 60s, not good for outdoor spring cleaning, but still great weather to take time for Mom, wherever she may be.
