CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Cleanup will continue Tuesday after wild weather pummeled the Denver metro area on Monday afternoon.

The storm system, which moved up from the southwest part of the state, dropped heavy snow on Telluride and Crested Butte before dumping up to an inch of dime-, nickel and quarter-sized hail in parts of Centennial and Highlands Ranch.

Photos sent in by FOX31 Denver viewers showed hail flood portions of I-225, parking lots and backyards in areas south of Denver.

Though Denver did not get much more than heavy rain, areas all around the city like Northglenn, Thornton, Aurora also saw intense hail from the storm system.

Tuesday morning, skies were clear and cleanup began.

Businesses up and down Arapahoe Road in Centennial were hit hard when hail and wind pummeled the area.  Damage we saw included a shredded light fixture, leaky roofs and exterior damage.

The storm left its mark at Arapahoe Hyundai.  The rain damaged part of the dealership and hundreds of cars will have to be discounted or repaired.

“We have over 500 cars on our lot,” said salesman Ray Saccomano. “Every single one of them got damaged. It look liked it snowed in September.”

Homes across the Denver metro area took a hit, too.

In Highlands Ranch, quarter-sized hail covered patios and driveways in white.

Homeowners will now be filing claims and searching for reputable contractors.

“Basically what you’re looking for is, are these impact marks from hail?” said Jasper Koehn of Koehn Construction.

Reputable roofing companies, including Koehn Construction, have already been swamped the past few months. After Monday’s storm, they will be working around the clock to catch up.

If you have damage to your home, car or business, make sure to document it with pictures.

Once you file a claim with your insurance adjuster, do your homework and find a reputable contractor to work with, by checking with the Better Business Bureau.
