Beware of fake Hurricane Irma forecast going viral on social media

DENVER — A fake forecast for growing Hurricane Irma created by an internet user has been shared almost 40,000 times.

The official National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was cut and pasted to make it look genuine. It’s also illegal.

The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows a spread of possible tracks for Hurricane Irma.

It’s still too far out to know with certainty where Irma will make landfall.
