SOCHI, Russia — American skier Mikaela Shiffrin won a gold medal in women’s slalom at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia on Friday.

Shiffrin,18, is the youngest-ever Olympic slalom champion of either gender.

Her time was 1 minute, 44.54 seconds. Marlies Schild and Kathrin Zettel, both of Austria, won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
