ROME — While Tim Tebow has spurned offers from secondary tiers of football in North America, that hasn’t discourage the top tier of American football Italy from extending an offer to the former Denver Broncos quarterback.

According to ESPN, Tebow has been offered a four-month contract by the Italian federation for American football to serve as a “sort of ambassador” of the sport in the country. Excerpts of an offer sent by federation president Leoluca Orlando to Tebow’s representatives were posted on the federation’s website Thursday.

Tebow would reportedly suit up for the Milano Seamen if he accepted the offer, and team president Marco Mutti told the Associated Press, “The offer has been made to (Tebow’s) agent and now we’re waiting for a response. … We would be more than happy to have him.”

A federation spokesman told the AP the offer is worth $200,000.

Two years ago, when the Broncos made the decision to cut Tebow after acquiring Peyton Manning, the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars were the only teams to express interest.

Tebow eventually signed with the Jets, and had a tumultuous one-year tenure with the team. A year after leading the Broncos to a playoff win — in addition to throwing for 1,729 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushing for 660 yards and six touchdowns — Tebow was passed over in favor of Jets third-string quarterback Greg McElroy when starter Mark Sanchez was benched late in the 2012 season.

Tebow attempted eight passes in his 12 games for the Jets. He rushed for 102 yards and averaged 3.2 yards per carry for the team, which finished with a 6-10 record. He was cut the following offseason.

The 26-year-old then signed with the New England Patriots before the start of the 2013 season, but did not make the final roster.

Since then, many in Jacksonville, Tebow’s hometown, have called for the team to sign the quarterback. Jacksonville’s ownership, however, has made it clear they are no longer interested in Tebow — at least not if he’s interested in playing quarterback. And that appears to be the only position Tebow is interested in playing at the moment.

Tebow has reportedly received offers from teams in the Arena Football League and the Canadian Football League to play quarterback, but to date, he has not accepted any of them.
