Just hours before the Denver Nuggets and Golden St. Warriors were to tip-off Game 6 in their first round NBA playoffs series, the NBA fined Warriors coach Mark Jackson $25,000 for comments he made following Game 5.

Denver won that game at the Pepsi Center Tuesday 107-100. Afterward, Jackson accused the Nuggets of sending “hit men” at point guard Stephen Curry.

The NBA apparently fined Jackson for an “attempt to influence the officiating” after Game 5.

That game was filled with physical play and the two teams combined for a total of 48 fouls. Denver was behind in the series 3-1, and the win closed that gap to 3-2 heading into Game 6 in Oakland Thursday night. The Nuggets still face elimination from the playoffs.

The controversy has escalated into a war of words between Jackson and Nuggets head coach George Karl.

Nuggets player Javale McGee said after Game 5 that if the Nuggets are “dirty,” the Warriors are “unsanitary.”
