DENVER — The Nuggets hired Mike Malone as their new coach Monday.

The Nuggets went 30-52 last season, missing the playoffs for the second year in a row, and fired Brian Shaw as coach in March.

Melvin Hunt replaced Shaw on an interim basis and was in the running for the job before the team chose Malone.

Malone was fired 24 games into the 2014-15 season by the Sacramento Kings, his second year on the job.

Malone went 39-67 with the Kings and he was eventually replaced by George Karl, who was fired by the Nuggets after the 2012-13 season after a first-round playoff loss to the Golden State Warriors.
