DENVER – Despite the perfect start to the Broncos season, some fans want backup quarterback Brock Osweiler after another poor showing from Peyton Manning against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Football is a game of numbers. After six games, all eyes seem to be Peyton Manning.
“I absolutely love the Broncos. Peyton Manning, I cried the day we signed him. It was the best day of my life,” Broncos fan Mitch Rossi said.
But after throwing his 10th interception of the season, Manning is enemy No. 1 on social media. Thousands of fans are bashing Manning for his performance so far this season but many are sticking with him and the 6-0 team.
“He probably should have retired last year,” Seahawks fan Shauna Yates said.
“He didn’t play the best, but he’s still Peyton Manning and we won the game,” Rossi said.
In fantasy football, Manning is struggling. Quarterbacks get points for throwing completions and touchdowns. They lose points for interceptions, fumbles and getting sacked.
Good quarterbacks average about 20 points per game. Manning is typically one of the highest fantasy point earning players in the league.
To put Manning’s 2015 season into perspective, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles is averaging 23 points per game. Manning is averaging 13 points.
“I’m so excited. I’m happy about that,” Chargers fan Kathy Lunas said.
Rival fans want Manning to stay in as much as Broncos fans do.
“I know that he’s probably going to throw some interceptions, make some mistakes. So, yeah, if we can keep him in, we can beat him at this game,” Lunas said.
Manning’s teammates are sticking with him too. Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman posted on his twitter: “Ya need to get off Peyton that’s our QB bottom line. You fake fans don’t say anything when he is winning us the game.”
