DURHAM, N.C. – Peyton Manning is back at work with his newest receiver. Wes Welker joined Manning for workouts at Duke University this week.
Broncos receivers Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas also made the trip.
Welker was the Broncos biggest free agent pickup this offseason, signing a two year $12 million dollar deal to play with Peyton Manning.
Manning and Welker had never worked out together, but Manning told ESPN he is already finding his groove with one of the Top 10 receivers in the NFL.
“There are certain guys you feel like you need it to happen with right away. He’s a guy who has a great feel for getting open, understanding route concepts. He played a sophisticated offense in New England. He’s smart.”
Manning worked out at Duke last spring as well when he was deciding where to play. Duke Head Football Coach David Cutcliffe was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee during Manning’s career in Knoxville. He also coached Eli Manning at Ole Miss.
Eli also attended the workouts with some of his receivers from the Giants.
