REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Electronic Arts announced its annual Super Bowl simulation in Madden NFL 16 on Monday.

EA has accurately predicted the winning team in nine of the past 12 Super Bowls dating to 2004 that it has run the simulation. Last year, the game got the winner and the final score exactly right: Patriots over the Seahawks, 28-24.

So who won between the Broncos and Carolina Panthers, who meet in Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7?

EA has the Broncos falling behind, 17-0, at halftime, but then Denver, behind quarterback Peyton Manning, scored 20 consecutive points in the second half to take a three-point lead.

But then Panthers quarterback Cam Newton leads a late touchdown drive, scoring on a goal-line scramble and giving Carolina a 24-20 win.

EA says Manning will complete 21 of 37 passes for 241 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

So while EA has a history of accurately pegging the Super Bowl winner, Broncos fans can take solace in the fact two years ago, EA predicted Denver would beat the Seattle Seahawks, 31-28, in Super Bowl XLVIII. And we all know how that turned out.
