DENVER -- The Rockies home opener faced a weather delay Friday afternoon as light but steady snow fell across Denver.
But the team announced a sellout crowd of more than 48,000 hardy fans who came out for the coldest opening day ever for the Rockies and the second coldest game the team has played. The first pitch temperature was 27 degrees.
About an hour after the announced delay, a tweet from the team noted that the game was back on despite below freezing temperatures. The first pitch was thrown out at 3:10 p.m.

The first pitch was initially scheduled for 2:10 p.m. and was pushed back one hour.
The Rockies lost to the hot-hitting Braves 8-3.
The cold and snow in Denver seemed to diminish the size of the opening day crowd in downtown compared to previous years.
