DENVER — Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed the new Colorado Rockies license plate into law during opening day events at Coors Field Monday.

Purchasers of the special license plate will make a one-time donation of $52.80 to the Colorado Rockies Baseball Foundation, a charitable organization that helps underprivileged and at-risk youth.

In addition to the one-time donation, drivers must pay for the license plate and $50 in motor vehicle fees.

“I can’t think of a better way for this bill to become a law,” said Rep. Kevin Priola, sponsor of the bill creating the license plate. “Rockies fans and Coloradans with a notion for philanthropy all have something to celebrate today.”

Fans will not be able to purchase the new Colorado Rockies license plate until January 2013.
