CU’s Derrick White taken by San Antonio Spurs in first round of NBA Draft

PARKER, Colo. -- The University of Colorado's Derrick White was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft on Thursday night. The San Antonio Spurs used the 29th pick to draft White.

White is from Parker and graduated from Legend High School. He played his first three years at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, a Division II school, before transferring to Boulder his senior year.

White was a Division II All-American before playing for the Buffaloes. He averaged 18.1 points, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals in his one season for CU, being named to the All-Pac-12 first team.

White was the first senior selected Thursday night. Every player picked before him was younger.

White is the fourth NBA pick in the past seven years under coach Tad Boyle and third in the first round. Overall, he is CU's ninth first-round NBA Draft pick and 34th overall.
