On Monday morning, Dan Daru arose bright and early to give took us a tour of City Star Brewing in Berthoud, winners of FOX31 Denver’s inaugural Colorado Brewery Cup.

In the pair of segments, Daru chatted with brewery owners John and Whitney Way about winning the World Cup-style tournament, in which breweries survived and advanced based entirely on votes from you, the viewer.

After advancing out of a competitive group that included breweries in nearby Loveland and Greeley, City Star went on to defeat some even-better-known breweries during the Knockout Stages. In particular, they downed New Belgium and Dry Dock in head-to-head voting before defeating another small-sized brewery, Dad and Dude’s Breweria, in the finals.

In two segments that aired live on Good Day Colorado Monday morning, John and Whitney explained how they were able to get the votes they needed to win. A lot of it apparently had to do with an adorable one-eyed chihuahua named Harely.

You can watch both segments — the first is at the top of this story and the second is at the bottom.
