DENVER — Colorado’s Own Channel 2 launched a new weekend edition of “Daybreak” Saturday, January 20.
The new newscast airs Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Channel 2 also has successful weekend newscasts from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“Coloradans are very active on weekends and I’m really excited about the opportunity to keep them up-to-date on breaking news, weather, and what they need to know to enjoy their Saturdays and Sundays,” said news director Brian Gregory. “I think our viewers will appreciate being able to get their weekends started with Colorado’s Own Channel 2.”
The newscast will be anchored by veteran anchor Matt Mauro, and he will be joined by Pinpoint Weather meteorologist and reporter Christine Rapp. Mauro joins us from the NBC affiliate in Phoenix. Rapp joins us from the ABC affiliate in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Being able to compete in a weekend news category is something we have been working on for a while now, but to see it come to fruition is exciting for all of us at Channel 2,” said Vice President and General Manager of KWGN-TV Joan Barrett, “We are truly Colorado’s Own television station and we are thrilled to be able to cover our state’s important events on weekend mornings.”
The addition of this newscast will allow Channel 2 to tell stories, share fun community events and cover the news as it happens on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
And because we will be on until 10 a.m., viewers will have a place to turn to get their weekend mornings started.
