Cherry’s are back in season and nothing is better on a hot summer day than to pick some cherries for a meal. Registered Dietician, Mara Mcguin, from King Soopers stopped by our studio to give some recipes for your cherry addiction.

  1. Cherry Balsamic Parfait


Makes 4 servings



  • 2 cups cherries, pitted
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cups plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract



  1. Combine cherries, water and balsamic vinegar in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir and mash the cherries until the mixture thickens.
  3. Remove from the heat and let cool completely.
  4. Stir lemon zest and almond extract into yogurt.
  5. Layer yogurt and cherry mixture in a glass.
  6. Top with sliced almonds (optional).


  1. Fresh Cherry Limeade


Makes 4 servings



  • 2 cups sweet cherries, pitted,
  • A handful of whole cherries for garnish (optional)
  • ½ cup fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 ½ cups cold water
  • Lime slices for garnish



  1. Combine cherries, lime juice and sugar in a blender – puree until smooth.
  2. Strain through a fine sieve into a pitcher. Stir in water.
  3. Serve over ice and garnish with limes and cherries.


  1. Fresh Cherry Salsa


Makes 2 cups



  • 2 cups cherries, pitted and coarsely chopped
  • ½ small red onion, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste



  1. In a medium bowl, combine cherries, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, and lime juice.
  2. Season with salt and pepper.


Serving Suggestions:

  • With chips
  • Over fish or fish tacos – tilapia works great!
  • Over chicken or chicken tacos
