Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. The first public act performed by the Delta Founders involved their participation in the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington D.C., March 1913. Delta Sigma Theta was incorporated in 1930.  This Saturday, they’re commemorating the 100th anniversary here in Colorado by attempting to break the Guinness Book World Record for the Largest Cakewalk Dance in era clothing.  The goal is to provide 2013 pounds of food to The Denver Rescue Mission, Metro State Student Food Bank, and Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado.  There’s also a Gala that evening, where you can enjoy a black-tie affair.  Dawnn Lewis (actress, singer and songwriter) will present a ‘Love Letter to Delta’ honoring the many Delta women who have made an impact in her life and career.  For ticket information, visit
