If the fast pace and high volume at the gym are getting to be too much, some classical music and the ballet bar may be the answer.

Health experts say more women are choosing ballet as a companion to their gym workouts to gain strength, stamina and a slim figure.

Denver Academy of Ballet instructor Leslie Jesti says, “It’s the lean long muscles women want not necessarily the “bulk” and ballet training is one of the best ways to achieve that look.”

Ballet routines can increase your heart rate while toning muscles and improving balance making it a bona fide total body workout.

Kirsten Deppe says ballet class is perfect for moms who need some time out for a relaxing energy boost. “It really works your arms, chest, back all those things you need when you’re lifting up your 14-month-old son.”

Instructors say whether you dream of dancing the Nutcracker one day or if the little girl inside just wants to slip on some pink ballerina shoes, there’s no reason to be intimidated.

You won’t start out with pro ballerina moves, but simple steps you can most likely handle with elegance and grace.
