DENVER — A woman’s wallet was stolen while she was shopping at the new Trader Joe’s off of Colorado Boulevard.

According to the Denver Police Department, the victim was grocery shopping at the Trader Joe’s at 790 Colorado Blvd. when her wallet was taken from her purse, which was in her shopping cart.

Within the few hours following the incident, the suspect or suspects charged $25,000 on the women’s American Express credit card, said DPD.

Police were able to capture surveillance video of a woman from Hyde Park in the Cherry Creek Mall, where, authorities say, she made several large purchases with the victim’s stolen card.

DPD reported an increase in thefts of purses and wallets from grocery store carts while people are shopping.
