DENVER -- Three children are recovering after their mother drove their SUV off a bridge.
The crash happened Tuesday morning near Iliff Avenue and Trenton Street. Donna Pierre and three of her children, a set of 7-year-old twin girls and a 3-year-old boy, were inside the vehicle when it rolled down a hill, landing on the Cherry Creek Trail.
Police say they found illegal drugs on Pierre and are investigating whether she was high at the time of the crash.
"It looked like a deleted scene from a movie," said Christal Holliday, who saw the crash as she pulled into work. "My immediate reaction was to run. Run to the vehicle."
Holliday was one of the first people on scene. She helped pull the kids out of the car. All of them were in safety seats and made it out with minor cuts and bruises.
Holliday stayed with the children until paramedics arrived. Her coworkers are calling her a hero.
"It was my motherly instinct. I don't think I'm a hero. I would do it for a stranger any day because I'm a mom and that's my instinct," she says.
Pierre has drug and DUI charges on her record. If she is charged with DUI in Tuesday's crash; she will likely be facing child abuse charges.
