KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman from a suburb of Kansas City posted a Craigslist ad offering to swap her wedding/engagement rings for tickets to one of the Kansas City Chiefs’ two contests against the Denver Broncos this season, one of which is coming up this Sunday.
Last week, her ad was answered by a man who has owned Chiefs season tickets for two decades, and who, after the sale, was planning to propose to his girlfriend with one of the newly-acquired rings.
Given the appraised value of the rings, $2,800, the man gave the woman tickets to a second Chiefs game, as well.
The Kansas City Star was the first to report the exchange between an Overland Park, Kan. woman and a Kansas City man. The woman received two tickets to the Nov. 24 Chiefs game against the San Diego Chargers and four tickets to the game against the Broncos in Kansas City that will take place a week later.
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous after receiving a negative backlash due to the ad, told the newspaper the rings were from a previous marriage and had no emotional importance to her anymore. She says she’s planning to give the tickets she received in the exchange to her current husband, a lifelong Chiefs fan, for his 40th birthday.
The man, who has also asked to remain anonymous so as not to tip his hand about the upcoming proposal, was planning on popping the question to his girlfriend during a party he’s holding at his house this Sunday for the first meeting between the Broncos and Chiefs.
