GOLDEN, Colo. — An evacuation order for residents of Blue Mountain Estates was canceled Monday night after a small wildfire calmed down. It began burning near homes Monday afternoon about eight miles northwest of Golden. Authorities had issued a Level 2 evacuation notice. A Level 2 evacuation means “residents are encouraged to evacuate as soon as possible,” according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department website. Deputies said they sent out 252 notifications to phones registered in the area. As of Tuesday morning, those evacuations notifications were cancelled, as crews said the fire did not grow overnight and was 50 percent contained. “We’re hopeful for 100 percent containment today,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet. Sheriff’s spokewoman Jacki Kelley said the Glencoe Valley Fire was burning near power lines in the area. A caller to 911 reported hearing a loud pop before the fire started around 2:20 p.m. on Monday, Kelley said. The Jefferson County At least five fire agencies responded to help fight the fire.  The Salvation Army said it was providing food and drinks for about 60 firefighters on the scene. Kelley said the area the fire is burning is somewhat difficult to access because there is only one road in and out. Firefighters setup a staging center at the Swartwalter Mine and hiked up to the fire, which was burning on the side of a steep ridge. Firefighters also gathered around homes on the top of the ridge ready to defend them if necessary. A helicopter from Durango made water drops on the fire. The weather forecast for the area was a high of 91 and about 25 percent humidity with a light wind.
