LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – A weekend of wet weather helped firefighters bring the Hewlett Fire in rural Larimer County close to containment.

The fire was 87-percent contained Monday after burning almost 7,700 acres. Fire managers hope to have the fire 100-percent contained Tuesday.

All evacuation orders were lifted Friday. No homes have been destroyed.

Also Friday, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper declared a disaster emergency for the Hewlett Fire, releasing $3 million from the state’s Disaster Emergency Fund to help pay for firefighting efforts.

522 firefighters are battling the blaze.

On Friday, the U.S. Forest Service announced it had cited James Weber of Fort Collins for accidentally starting the fire while using an alcohol-burning stove.
