BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. — This time a year ago, merchants and chamber types in the high country were begging for pre-Christmas snow, but the snow gods were just giving them dirt and drought.

“For all the bad news in 2012, this year bookings are up and there is plenty of snow — a foot in the past week — for any and all pre-holiday sliders and riders,” said Go-Breck rep Bill Wishoeski. “Our Santa Run and the street lighting is set for this weekend, so we are ready for any and all lovers of snow!”

In Frisco, merchants we visited with last year were down in the dumps about the lack of ‘front-rangers’ coming up, but they all knew the reason… no snow. This year, most say foot traffic is up and so are sales.

“We know there is a direct link between snow and business,” said Wanted Boots shop owner Megan Sullivan. “This season, it seems as if pre-holiday sales will improve because there is snow on the ground and people around the county are hearing about it.”

The Adventure Park in Frisco is also super busy, with tubing and cross-country skiing. They are hosting Wassail Days this weekend as well.

And how is the snow? According to those sliding and riding, there is plenty of powder the only thing chasing them off the slopes, the chill in the air! But we know that won’t last for too long.

What a difference a year makes.
