WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A Westminster High School math teacher has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a student, the Westminster Police Department said.
Benjamin Forbes resigned from his job Thursday. He was also a coach at the school.
Police said they were contacted by school officials about an incident that occurred between Forbes and a student on campus.
They said odd behavior was observed and reported between the two, and that resulted in the investigation and arrest.
Forbes is being held on a $5,000 bond. He has been charged with sexual assault on a child in position of trust and sexual assault on a child in a pattern of abuse.
Westminster Public Schools released a statement regarding the investigation.
Westminster High School math teacher, Ben Forbes is no longer employed by Westminster Public Schools. He resigned his position on Thursday, December 1 after the conclusion of an internal investigation, which was shared with the Westminster Police Department.
Mr. Forbes also served as head boys [sic] soccer coach and assistant coach to the boys’ basketball team and girls’ soccer team.
Mr. Forbes has been arrested on the charges of sexual assault on a child-position of trust and sexual assault on a child-pattern of abuse.
Respecting due process for all parties involved, we continue to follow district policy and procedures and are referring details about the investigation to the Westminster Police Department.

Earlier this week, a middle school physical education teacher in Jefferson County was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a 17-year-old.
Michael Bueno, 47, was found with the runaway girl in a cabin in Pine. Bueno is a teacher at West Jefferson Middle School and a coach at Conifer High School.
And on Tuesday, a security guard at Ponderosa High School in Douglas County was taken into custody after a report he sexually assaulted a student. The case against Gary Postell, 49, is still under investigation.
