WESTMINSTER, Colo. — An armed robbery suspect who was sought, prompting five schools to be placed on lockout, has been arrested, the Westminster Police Department said Wednesday.

Brandon Romero, 26, was arrested just more than two hours after police were called to the 7600 block of Sheridan Boulevard on a report of an armed robbery about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A female victim reported a male suspect entered her car, threatened that he had a weapon, and stole a large amount of cash and prescription medication. The woman was not injured.

Police set up a perimeter to search for Romero. Five schools — Westminster High School, Harris Park Elementary School, Hidden Lakes High School, STEM Academy and Thompson Elementary School — were placed on lockout during the search. It was lifted just before 12:30 p.m.

Police said Romero was taken into custody in the 4900 block of 118th Court in Westminster about 1:45 p.m.

Romero was booked into the Adams County Detention Facility on a charge of aggravated robbery.
