ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – Police believe the woman found dead along Interstate 76 in Brighton Friday morning was hit by a passing driver.

The Adams County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 51-year-old Cindy Augustian from Aurora.

Investigators believe she crashed her car and may have been walking along the highway to get help.

Her SUV was found in a grassy culvert next to the highway about half a mile away from where she was struck.

Brighton police say they got two separate calls about a woman walking along the interstate between 4:20 and 5 a.m., but were unable to locate her.

Someone called police at about 6:20 a.m. and said they thought they saw a person lying on the shoulder of the highway.

That's when police found Augustian and her SUV.

The investigation closed westbound Interstate 76 at East 136th Avenue for several hours.

The road reopened around 10:40 a.m. on Friday.
