DENVER — The new Westin hotel at Denver International Airport went up and is now open for business after more than 20 years in the making and three years of construction.
But all those years can fly by as the 519-room hotel went up in a time-lapse video that was posted Thursday. It follows construction from groundbreaking until just before Thanksgiving when the hotel was finally completed.
With 37,500 square feet of convention space, a lobby and sky bar overlooking the high-speed commuter rail train, a pool and fitness center with views of the mountains and airfield, a conference center and two ballrooms, and outdoor plaza leading to the airport terminal, city leaders call the hotel one of a kind.
EarthCam, a New Jersey company, put together the video from pictures of the hotel’s construction.
The Westin DIA is expected to cost $550 million to $590 million by the time work is finished in April on a train station that pulls into its bottom-floor area.
