VAIL, Colo. — There will be another option for golfers this year when playing Vail Golf Club. Besides the usual walking or riding a cart, the club will add the Golf Bike for golfers.

Vail will be the first course in Colorado to offer use of the device, which debuted at the PGA Merchandise Show in January. The bikes carry clubs on the side as the golfer pedals to his or her next shot.

The club will off four bikes this summer as it tests them. The rental cost is $15 for an 18-hole round.

“We’re excited to offer the golf bike this summer and provide a ‘green,’ innovative and engaging means of transportation around the course,” Vail Golf Club Director Alic Plain said. “The low-impact bikes are perfect for golfers who have trouble walking the course, but would prefer to not ride a cart. It will be a unique experience for golfers of all abilities and the fun-factor will be priceless.”

The bikes were designed by Higher Ground Bicycling in Florida. It features six gears and hand brakes. Plain said the bike can go about the same speed as a cart.
