Wheat Ridge, Colo. -- If you had to guess, how many stores do you think exist in Colorado? A couple thousand? Tens of thousands? Regardless, I bet none of them are as unique as the one we visited in Wheat Ridge this weekend.
"The Brass Armadillo" is part of a chain, with stores in other states; but each store takes its own twist on things. At the Armadillo's Wheat Ridge location, owner Scott Gottula likes to create a 'community-like' feeling.
Mix that in with the bizarre items the antique and collectible shop sells and you've got one heck of a business!
"That’s what we do here. We’re a community of 6,000 dealers, thousands of antique collectors and enthusiasts and people who just want to come and have fun with recreational shopping," said Gottula.
Those 6,000 dealers bring in thousands of new items each day to the 45,000 square foot facility. The store has millions of dollars in inventory.
Some items are traditional, others are just plain whacky. Take for instance the victorian-style coffin with a glass window Gottula sold, or the six and a half foot tall werewolf statute currently on sale at the store.
"I like to say there’s something here for everyone in every price range," Gottula said.
Shoppers said they will spend hours browsing the Armadillo's aisles.
"It's easy to get lost here," one man said with a smile on his face.
If you've never been, check it out. We bet you'll walk away with something unique!
