Steamboat Springs is home to some great hiking and mountain biking trails.  The Mad Creek Trail is one that is great for the family or if you just want an easy to navigate trail.  It follows Mad Creek, which is running high right now because of snowmelt run-off.  It is a 4 mile round trip hike to Mad Barn, which is part of a U.S. Forest Service homestead preserved from the early 1900s.  The barn was restored in 2000.

The Mad Creek Trailhead is about 5 miles north of Steamboat Springs.   It is on Routt County 129, also known as Elk River Road.  Mad Creek runs into the Elk River.
