Jennifer Broome takes us to Buena Vista to get ready for Paddlefest.

This weekend Buena Vista is hosting Paddlefest.  From kayaking to stand up paddling, there are all sorts of competitions, demos, and events.

The Arkansas River is running with good flow.  The half day Browns Canyon rafting trip with River Runners is a fun family outing.  It has Class III Rapids.  Children must be 6 or older.  Cost is $60 for adults and $50 for kids.

Try stand up paddling on Town Pond in Buena Vista then watch the more advanced SUP in the Arkansas River from the area known as The Beach in South Main of Buena Vista.  There’s also a great trail along the river.

For paddle gear, head to CKS in downtown Buena Vista.  They have gear for everything thing water from kayaking to paddle boarding.  They can even help set up lessons for you.

The place to stay in Buena Vista, is South Main.  The area is filled with wonderful rental homes and is close to the river.  There are also a few few wonderful shops and galleries.  For food stop by the Buena Vista Roastery for breakfast and coffee, Eddyline for lunch or dinner, and the Asian Palate for dinner.  Or head over to Salida for dinner at Laughing Ladies.  Make a stop at Jumpin’ Good Goat Dairy Farm to meet the goats and get some cheese.  For the over 21 crowd, check out the Deerhammer Distillery for hand crafted whiskey and gin.
