COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Two women are dead after being hit by a large SUV while pushing a stroller across a road in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs Police officers said the women were walking across North Carefree Circle at Picturesque Drive around 8 a.m. Monday when they were hit by a large SUV. Both died at the hospital.

A baby in a stroller was crying but was still strapped in and was not hurt. The 14-month-old was taken to Memorial Hospital in good condition.

The child's mother, Rebecca Robinson, and her friend, Rose Arcuragi were crossing the five-lane N. Carefree Cir. when a white Toyota Sequoia hit them according to Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Barbara Miller.

The driver, Jennifer Eggleton, stopped after the crash. She had not been ticketed Monday afternoon and police were investigating whether charges would be filed.

There is no crosswalk or stoplight at the intersection.
