AURORA, Colo. — Two Aurora-area schools were put on lockdown Friday morning due to police activity in the area.

Aurora police confirmed that Gateway High School and Jewell Elementary School were placed on lockdown shortly before 10:30 a.m. while police conducted an investigation. The lockdown on both schools was lifted around 5 p.m.

Police would not go into the details of their investigation.

Both schools are on South Sable Road just south of East Mississippi Avenue.

Gateway High School has seen its fair share of difficulty this year. The school served as a staging point for witnesses and victims in the aftermath of the Aurora theater tragedy in July.
