NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — When a Virginia man saw a homeless person hanging around his local shopping center, he decided he wanted to help.

But instead of just handing over a small donation, he took his kindness to another level for a homeless man he has called a “real, genuine, kind person.”

That Good Samaritan is known as Rahat, and he refers to himself as “the magician prankster” in his series of popular “drive thru pranks” on YouTube. In this particular YouTube video, Rahat starts the homeless man, who has been identified only as Eric, that he doesn’t have cash, but he does have a winning lottery ticket.

Rahat claims he isn’t sure how the ticket is worth, but offers to take Eric to the store to claim the winnings. When the men got to the store, the clerk tells them the ticket is a $1,000 winner and counts out the bills.

The lottery ticket wasn’t real, but Rahat worked it out with the clerk to make it seem legitimate was so Eric could “win.”

Overwhelmed, Eric tells Rahat he wants to split the money with him, saying, “I want to share it, my friend.” But Rahat declines, saying “You earned it, man. You just won the lottery!”

The video ends quite appropriate with a heartfelt embrace. Since it has gone viral, Rahat has set up a fundraising campaign for Eric online. As of Thursday morning, the campaign had raised over $17,000.
