BIRMINGHAM, England — A deaf English woman was able to hear for the first time after having cochlear implants turned on, the Birmingham Mail reported.

Joanne Milen, 40, suffers from Usher Syndrome and had been deaf since birth. She also lost her vision in her 20s.

When the cochlear implants were turned on, her emotional reaction was filmed by her mother.

“I wanted to record the moment when her implants were switched on,” her mother told the Mail. “It was just wonderful and I had tears running down my face. We all did.”
