SANTA ROSA, Calif. — A dog that got stuck on a cliff high above the Pacific Ocean was rescued Saturday afternoon by a sheriff’s deputy dangling from a helicopter.

Oreo, a black and white Labrador, somehow made her way about 40 feet down a 90-foot high cliff at the southern end of Santa Rosa’s Portuguese Beach, police said.

Failing to coax the dog back up, pilot Paul Bradley flew a chopper low over the cliff with deputy Henri Boustany strapped to a 100-foot long line hanging below.

Boustany was able to grab the dog from a sheer rock face and carry it back to its owner.
