Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced the cast for “Star Wars: Episode VII” Tuesday.

In the new episode of the popular cinematic series, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow join the original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker, according to a release on the “Star Wars” franchise website.

“It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life once again,” said J.J. Abrams, who is slated to direct the new flick. “We start shooting in a couple of weeks. and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Abrams also co-wrote the screenplay with Lawrence Kasdan and will produce it along with Kathleen Kennedy and Bryan Burk. John Williams returns to compose the score to accompany the epic film.

The movie opens worldwide Dec. 18, 2015.
