NEW YORK — We’ve heard our fair share of grumbling around the Denver Metro area when local school districts have made controversial decisions to call students into class despite snowy and blustery conditions outside.

But those protests seemed to pale in comparison to the outrage that ensued when Bill de Blasio, mayor of the country’s largest city, made the call to keep schools open after his city’s public school chancellor called it “an absolutely beautiful day outside.”

That declaration was made by New York City Chancellor Carmen Fariña despite the fact that the city’s streets were shrouded in up to a foot of snow in some spots, and despite the fact that the New York officials declared a state of emergency in the city due to the snow.
