JUPITER, Fla. — Skier Lindsey Vonn just decided that she’ll have to skip next month’s Winter Olympics because of her injured knee. But now she has a new friend to keep her company.

She picked up her new friend at an animal shelter in Jupiter, Fla. Wednesday. Vonn and her boyfriend, Tiger Woods, chose the Brindle Boxer mix named Leo before Christmas.

Vonn says this particular dog has something in common with her. Leo also has a bad knee.

The dog got hurt after a car hit him. He’s already had surgery to assist in his recovery.

Lindsey wrote on her Facebook page Wednesday that no one wanted the 9-month-old puppy. But she did.

“I encourage anyone looking for an animal to adopt from a shelter and save a life! #bumkneebuddies,” she wrote.

Lindsey Vonn is going to take her time recovering. She hopes to compete at the World Championships in her own backyard of Vail in February 2015.
