DENVER -- Jae Kaushik began her water color painting years ago as a form of relaxation. When she saw someone painting with instant coffee, she decided to try it, understanding that she could cut down on costs for her pastime.

“We buy Caribou Coffee and grind it ourselves,” Kaushik said. “When I found out that I could control colors better with coffee and I could save money by using my grounds and some beans, I began trying coffee art.”

Her friends and family began asking for her images and even offering to pay for them, she knew she was on to something big.

Now, she has a Facebook page and is in the business of selling her very fine art.

At Sparks Coffee House on East Hampden Avenue and South Monaco Parkway, she is getting work together to hang on the walls -- kind of a mini-gallery. She hopes together with her online sales this new found medium -- to her -- could help give her family a new lease on life.

She is quick to add that when it all stops being fun and turns into work, she might have to cut back. For now, she is brush-stroking her way into some uncharted waters which could wind up being very good for her family.
