KIOWA COUNTY, Colo. -- A train trestle was destroyed Wednesday in a grass fire in southeast Colorado, the Kiowa County Sheriff's Office said.

The fire burned three miles west of Haswell. Highway 96, the main road in the area, was closed at mile marker 142 because of heavy smoke.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. It was extinguished just before 11 a.m.
