DENVER — Three students and one other person were transported to a hospital after a small fire in the chemistry lab at STRIVE Prep — SMART Academy on the Lalo Delgado campus on Monday morning.

The first call was reported just before 8 a.m. to the school at 3201 West Arizona Ave. and the fire was quickly put out, Denver Fire said.

Denver Fire says the four had minor burns to their face and upper bodies.

School CEO Chris Gibbons says an 11th grade teacher was leading a chemistry demonstration when it caught fire.

There was an initial evacuation of the school when the fire broke out, but students later were allowed back inside and classes resumed as scheduled.
