Thousands use pedal power to hit streets on Bike to Work Day

DENVER — Thousands of bicyclists from the metro area hit the roads Wednesday morning for the annual Bike to Work Day.

Civic Center Park was filled with vendors serving breakfast to cyclists as they rode into the city, and there were breakfast and water stations throughout the metro area.

The event is coordinated by the Regional Council of Government’s “Way to Go” program.

The breakfast stations were set up through 9 a.m. and there will be refreshment stations for the ride home from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Also as part of Bike to Work Day will be the opening of Phase 1 of the 18-mile U.S. 36 bikeway. The 11-mile first phase goes from Louisville to Westminster. The second phase of the bikeway into Boulder will be completed next year.
