DENVER -- Someone smashed the windows of a Denver pet shop with a rock and stole three puppies late Tuesday night.
Sheila VanderVeer owns the Aquatic Dog on Iliff Anvenue near Quebec Street. She tells FOX31 News someone threw a 15 pound rock through the front window of her store around midnight and stole two Boston-Pug mixes and one Yorkshire Terrier.
The puppies are between 9 and 10 weeks old, VandVeer said.
The Terrier costs about $1,200, she said, while the Pugs costs about $400 each.
"I worry about the puppies," VanderVeer said. "You know someone who is going to steal a puppy, what's he going to do with it? With these little guys you have to feed them properly, or they could end up in a hypoglycemic shock."
VanderVeer said she has surveillance video of the robber. She said she believes the surveillance video shows him and another man casing the store on Monday, preparing for Tuesday night’s break-in.
"From our surveillance camera, it looked like they were in on Monday and came back Tuesday night and took the puppies. These are trying times. My husband and I just have a few part time employees, it’s been a struggle the past few years and those puppies being taken, we were counting on that income, so it’s going to be tough," VanderVeer said.
This is not the first time someone has broken into the store, she said.
"My hope is that somebody will see these particular puppies and let us know who might’ve taken them," VanderVeer said. "We just of course want the puppies back. I worry for them. Hopefully on the video you might be able to recognize the person who took the puppies and we just want the puppies back."
