BOULDER, Colo. — A spa in Boulder that uses breast milk for some of its skin treatments seems to be the target of at least one vandal.
Mud Facial Bar offers breast milk facials as part of its services.
“I mean, of course it’s controversial,” owner Samantha Sowa said.
But she also said it’s more popular than one might think.
“The breast milk is really great for acne, acne scars, eczema, sun burns, psoriasis even,” she said.
The spa opened in April on Broadway. Earlier this month, workers were shocked to see their store window vandalized.
“It was just cracked right in the center … kind of ‘spidered-out,'” Sowa said.
Beyond that, the owners said they don’t know what happened. They don’t have cameras so they have no suspects. And while they aren’t certain of the motive, the crack came on a window sign advertising the breast milk facials.
“I was shocked. I had no words. I felt personally victimized by it,” Sowa said.
It was not only an expensive repair, but one that hit them on a personal level.
“It’s a small business. We put everything — our entire livelihood into this business,” Sowa said. “We are good people. We are not here to hurt anybody. We are here to help everybody.”
The owners said the breast milk they use comes from a woman who is on a strict organic and vegan diet. They said the milk is screened, certified and safe to use.
