JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. –The Colorado State Patrol said a school bus driver was killed Friday afternoon in a crash on U.S. 285 near Windy Point in Jefferson County. That’s near Conifer.

A patrol spokesperson says the Jefferson County Schools bus driver was out of his bus when another car hit him. This was not a hit-and-run. There were no students on the bus when this happened.

There were reports of a half dozen vehicles involved in a pileup at that location. U.S. 285 was closed in both directions at Windy Point until crews were able to reopen it at about 4:30 p.m.

Snow Friday afternoon turned some roads treacherous around metro Denver and slowed drive times all over the region.

Aurora said it had seven crashes working at one time, and urged drivers there to slow down. The city was on accident alert during the evening commute.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said an avalanche closed U.S. 40 at Berthoud Pass. There was no estimated time for reopening.
