BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. — A major traffic accident closed eastbound Interstate 70 near Copper Mountain on Friday.
The crash happened near mile marker 197, the Colorado State Patrol said. Witnesses reported an SUV pulling an RV trailer flipped and both rolled over several times. CSP says the crash killed 26-year-old Miranda Schumann of Buena Vista.
CSP reported that the accident only involved one vehicle with a camper that rolled over. Four people, three of them minors, suffered injuries. The driver was reportedly not hurt.
In a tweet, CSP indicated that early investigations seemed to suggest the accident was caused by a party falling asleep at the wheel.
Traffic was significantly slowed in the area as of 12:30 p.m., then reopened about 1 p.m.
